The Estepona Town Hall announces that next Friday, April 10th, at 9:00 PM, the play "Campeones 2 (en el teatro). Si Lorca levantara la cabeza…" (Champions 2: If Lorca Were to Rise Again…), directed and performed by 'El Langui', will be performed at the Felipe VI Auditorium Theatre.
Claudia is a successful actress. Very successful. However, she feels she hasn't yet landed that big role that could catapult her to stardom. Until one day, luck knocks: one of the greats is going to direct what will be his last film, and he's written the lead role with her in mind. However, the character has a disability, and before making a decision, the director wants to see her.
To prepare for the test, she comes up with an idea: to reconnect with Gloria—her cousin with Down syndrome. They grew up together, but Claudia disappeared overnight to pursue her dream, and Claudia believes Gloria hates her for it. Her agent thinks it's crazy, but Claudia asks her to trust her. Something tells her it has to be this way.
Claudia is reunited with Gloria after ten years apart, and her fears vanish instantly. Her cousin welcomes her with open arms. Gloria acts in the theater group at her neighborhood community center with her roommates, Alberto and Emilio, who dream that someone will discover the talent they believe they possess and pull them out of their humdrum lives. The group is led by Juan, who also has a disability and knows all too well what fame is and its consequences: he could have been a star once. But one day, Juan left everything without explanation and returned to his neighborhood. Since then, to everyone else, Juan isn't the same. Juan is suspicious of Claudia. He senses why she's come back and doesn't want Gloria to suffer.
The group is rehearsing a new play, a very particular version of The House of Bernarda Alba, and Claudia offers to act with them, pretending to also have a disability. Juan reluctantly agrees, compelled by Gloria's and the group's enthusiasm.
For Claudia, everything seems to fall into place. However, things won't be that simple. Claudia will enter a world far removed from the superficiality of the capital, a world where only honesty matters. The play's rehearsals, her unresolved past with Gloria, Juan becoming a mirror of her own existence, the pressures from her agent, and the test that could define her destiny will force Claudia to reconsider what true success in life really means.
Tickets are on sale at teatroestepona.com, and at the Auditorium box office on the day of the performance, from two hours before the start.
