Photography exhibition "more was lost in cuba, a tribute to aldo menendez"
The Casa de Las Tejerinas hosts an exhibition of artists from the 1980s generation in Cuba.
The exhibition 'More Was Lost in Cuba, Tribute to Aldo Menéndez', featuring funds from the Jorge Reynardus collection, will be open to the public from March 18 to May 3.
Estepona City Council announces that the Casa de Las Tejerinas will host a contemporary art exhibition starting March 18th featuring artists from the 1980s generation in Cuba, most of whom had to leave their country and now reside in the US, Spain, and Mexico.
The exhibition is titled "More Was Lost in Cuba - Tribute to Aldo Menéndez" and belongs to the Jorge Reynardus collection. Considered a pioneer in the world of Hispanic advertising, he holds a prominent place among Cuban art collectors and is the founder of The Cuban Art Alliance. The double meaning of the title reflects, on the one hand, the immigration of Andalusians to Cuba and, on the other, the artists Cuba lost in the diaspora of the 1990s. One of the objectives of this presentation is to stimulate cultural exchange between Estepona and other communities that share an interest in the arts.
Aldo Menéndez, the honoree, is a renowned Cuban artist who lived in Spain for many years and passed away in Miami in 2020. Menéndez directed the Porto Carrero Workshop in Cuba, where these creatives learned the art of printing, and is recognized as a multifaceted artist: painter, graphic designer, silkscreen expert, art critic, exhibition curator, author of several monographs, and editor of the book "Artists in Purgatory." In 1987, the Cuban Ministry of Culture awarded him the National Order of Cuban Culture.
The art exhibition includes works by more than thirty artists.
The exhibition will be open until May 3, Tuesday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with free admission.
