Film club: "the green algae"

Estepona Town Hall informs that the Culture Department's Cine-Club will continue the winter cycle with the screening of the 2023 French film 'Les algues vertes' (The Green Algae), by director Pierre Jolivet, which tells the fascinating true story of a long-term investigation into the danger of green algae. It is the film adaptation of the successful comic of the same name.

It will be next Thursday, January 23, at 8:00 p.m., at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center. The screening will be in the original French version with Spanish subtitles. Admission is free until full capacity is reached. The Alliance Française of Malaga is in collaboration.

Set in the drama genre, the film 'The Green Algae' is a feature-length fiction film by veteran French filmmaker Pierre Jolivet. It is an adaptation of the comic 'Les algues vertes, l'histoire interdite' (The Green Algae, the Forbidden Story) by Inés Léraud and Pierre Van Hove, a big bestseller in 2019, and stars Nina Meurisse, Céline Sallette and Julie Ferrier.

Synopsis: No less than 3 men and 40 animals have been found dead on the beaches of Brittany. The identity of the killer is an open secret: green algae. Inès Léraud is still a young journalist when, driven by an ecological conscience, she decides to go to Brittany to investigate this phenomenon. Through her meetings with whistleblowers, scientists, farmers and politicians, she elucidates, not without difficulty, half a century of silence: samples disappearing in laboratories, bodies buried before being autopsied, influence games, pressures... Will the truth win?
