International book day 2024

The City Council organizes different activities to celebrate International Book Day 2024

The central activity will take place on Tuesday the 23rd, at 6:00 p.m., at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, with the performance of the play 'Entrepasos and a question' and the free distribution of books to children to promote reading.

The Estepona City Council has organized a program of cultural activities to celebrate International Book Day, a commemoration celebrated every April 23 worldwide, promoted by UNESCO since 1988, with the aim of promoting reading, the publishing industry and protection of intellectual property through copyright.

To begin, the municipal Culture delegation, through the Municipal Public Library, has called the 'III Bookface Contest' to reward the most original photographs trying to fit the face or any other part of the body with the cover of a book. Anyone from Estepona can participate in this call, without age limit, with a maximum of two unpublished photographs, with the only condition that the title of the book work is visible. Photographs will be sent by e-mail to: admbiblioteca@estepona.es in jpg, jpeg or png format.

The submission period will remain open until midnight on April 19, 2024, and the winner of the contest will receive a prize of books worth 100 euros, to be chosen from the available fund of the local bookstore designated by the city council.

The program of events will continue on Saturday, April 20, starting at 11:00 a.m., at the Fairgrounds, where the Library will participate in the II Cycle School March, organized by the CEIP Ntra. Señora del Carmen, with an information table in which copies of its youth and children's collection will be shown with the aim of promoting reading.

As for Tuesday the 23rd, International Book Day, at 6:00 p.m., at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, books will be distributed to children, while supplies last, and the play 'Entrepasos y una question', in charge of the theater workshop of the Culture Delegation, with free access until capacity is reached.

The 'María Zambrano' Room of the Municipal Library, located on the first floor, will host a photographic exhibition by JR Korpa, by the artist Javier Rodríguez, for two weeks. Finally, in collaboration with the Municipal Historical Archive, the 'María Zambrano' Room will host from April 23 to May 4 an exhibition on the bibliographic heritage of Estepona and Estepona authors.
