Vii world ham contest "popi" city of estepona
The VII World Ham Contest will begin on Saturday in Estepona, which will feature 150 cutters and more than 50 exhibitors
This tourist and gastronomic event, which will take place until August 15 on the Paseo Marítimo, will offer free concerts by different artists every night.
Estepona City Council informs that this Saturday, August 6, the VII World Contest of Ham 'Popi' Ciudad de Estepona will begin on the Paseo Marítimo. The event, which is sponsored by the 'Sabor a Málaga' brand of the Malaga Provincial Council, will take place until August 15.
The deputy mayor of the Sociocultural area, Begoña Ortiz, highlighted that the city has been able to recover this important event dedicated to Iberian products, after the suspension caused by the health situation in the last two years.
Ortíz explained that this gastronomic event will feature the presence of the best companies in the country related to the production of ham and its derivatives. In total, the public will be able to visit more than 50 exhibitors that will have 150 ham cutters.
Also, Begoña Ortiz has highlighted that the objective of this contest is to stimulate, fundamentally, the ham and pork derivatives sector, and indirectly other agri-food products in the province. In addition, he pointed out that this event expands the gastronomic offer of the city at one of the times of the year when a greater number of tourists are received.
The forecast of the organization is that during the ten days of celebration they can exceed 400,000 visits. And it is that the people who come to this event will also be able to enjoy exquisite products from Malaga, among which the wines with Designation of Origin 'Sierras de Málaga', homemade sausages and artisan breads will have a prominent role.
For her part, the councilor attached to the Culture and Festivals delegation, Macarena Diánez, has reported on the 'Jamón Festival Music', the fun part of the event, which will offer musical performances every day from 11:30 p.m. Thus, the concerts of Rafa Cremades & TV Band will take place on August 6, 'Compás Flamenco' on August 7, Dani Márquez and Lázaro Cruz on August 8, Nolasco on August 9, 'El Bomba' and Ana Soto on August 10, Laura Gallegos on August 11, 'Son del Puerto' on August 12, José Fernández 'El Pirata' on August 13, JDM Manuel de Jesús on August 14 and 'Por Derecho' on August 15.
The presentation of the VII World Ham Contest has ended with the intervention of the professional cutter and promoter of the event José María Téllez 'Popi' who has announced that both the concert area and the exhibitor area have been adapted to facilitate access and stay for people with physical disabilities or reduced mobility.
It has also reported that attendees will be able to consume the best freshly cut Iberian ham for a price of only 5 euros, in addition to enjoying various activities such as tastings, ham cutter contests and musical evenings.
